Out with the old, in with the new…guess which is which đ I’ve had a lot of good years with my little red guy. He’s sliced many a thin potato and onion in record time. I was looking for an upgrade. Something that had variable thicknesses as well as variety of cuts. This was the answer.
My new baby is the OXO Good Grips V-Blade Mandoline Slicer. Here are some of the highlights:
- Easily slices fruits and vegetables; makes straight slices, crinkle cuts, French fries and julienne strips
- Includes 4 blades; height adjuster offers 4 thicknesses: 1.5mm, 3mm, 4.5mm, and 6mm
- Blades store on board and remove for cleaning; textured surface keeps food from sticking; protects fingers
- Handle and turning knob are soft for comfort; non-slip feet keep it secure; fold feet and lock for compact and safe storage
- Blades require hand washing, while the body and food holder are dishwasher safe
In addition to these features, it offers a lifetime warranty! If anything goes wrong, they’ll replace it. I love companies that stand behind their products like this. It also won top spot on America’s Test Kitchen product reviews over the more expensive players. I love how it stores all the additional blades right inside the unit itself so it doesn’t take up a lot of extra space. When you have a small house, this is a bonus. Super Bonus: This is on Amazon for $39.99 and I snagged it up at Target for $28.00. It’s not everyday you can beat Amazon’s prices! It slices very easy, and clean up is a cinch. The blades are removable so you can just rinse them in some soapy water and air dry, while the rest of the unit you can  be thrown right in the dishwasher. To adjust the thickness you just turn the dial. A lot of other models you have to change the whole blade.
If you do a lot of slicing and enjoy home made french fries and crickle cut fries, I highly recommend this product. It’s not a unitasker and it’s one thing I can’t live without in my kitchen. It’s highly reviewed on all the sites that sell it including Amazon, Zappos, William Sonoma, Bed Bath and Beyond and of course Target.
Do you guys think this is a product you would use? Do you prefer slicing your fruits and veggies by hand? What kitchen gadgets can you not live without?
