Here’s the thing, we’re kind of snobby when it comes to salsa. It will pretty much guarantee a return visit to a restaurant if they have good salsa. If not, sadly, they’ll never see us again. So making salsa at home is quite the daunting task. The husband likes it hot and I like it fresh with lots of flavor. Meeting these two expectations is not an easy feat.
When I received a bunch of tomatoes in our latest Bountiful Basket, I knew the salsa game was on and the pressure was real. Simple, clean ingredients were the star of the show. No canned tomatoes here, we’re using them straight from the vine. The end result was lovely. The husband wanted a bit more spice, so I will add a few more jalapeños in for him next time, but for me, it was amazing!
Here’s just how easy it is to make at home. All you need is a food processor or blender.
Gather tomatoes, limes, garlic, jalapeños and onion. Not pictured, fresh cilantro.
First thing we need to do is seed the tomatoes. Roll the tomato to the side so the stem faces to the right and cut in half.
With a spoon, gently scoop out seeds and membrane.
Just like that. You’re left with a hollowed out half. Repeat with other half and rest of tomatoes.
Slice the hollowed halves in half again so you’re left with clean tomato quarters.
Next, cut the jalapeño into smaller pieces. This doesn’t have to be precise, we’re just going to help out the food processor a little. For a milder salsa, be sure to remove seeds and membrane.
In the food processor, add in tomatoes, jalapeño, 1/4 of an onion, garlic cloves, cilantro, lime juice sugar and a little salt and pepper.
Pulse in the food processor (or blender) to desired texture. Our preference is pretty smooth with small chunks. Pop into a bowl and cover in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
As far as serving goes, I think you know what to do here 😉
I wish all my foodies a lovely weekend!

Fresh salsa is one of the best parts of summer! This salsa looks so fresh and delicious. My husband wants it to burn holes in your throat going down, but I am wimpier so I make it a happy medium.
